Muskoka Oktoberfest (October 20-23)

Oktoberfest is a traditional German holiday originating from Munich. It was originally promoted by King Ludwig I to celebrate his wedding in 1810. The event usually includes vendors, amusement rides, music, food and, of course, beer! The tradition became so popular that is now observed all around the world, and Muskoka is no different!

Happening this year from October 20-23 all across the Muskoka area, the FREE festival is set to bring entertainment, music, food and beer to many participating restaurants and bars in Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, Huntsville, Lake of Bays and Muskoka Lakes.

This year, there will be six local breweries serving craft beer: Canvas Brewing Co, Clear Lake Brewing Co, Katalyst Brewing Co, Lake of Bays Brewing Co, Muskoka Brewery, and Sawdust City Brewing Co.  These breweries promote tours and partner with local chefs to pair their beer with locally sourced products, ingredients and menus. During the four days of celebration, participating restaurants will be serving traditional Oktoberfest dishes like Sausages, Pretzels, Potato Pancakes, Sauerkraut, Spätzel and more. Eateries are encouraged to put a Muskoka ‘spin’ on the dishes, incorporating locally sourced ingredients such as cranberries, maple and shiitake mushrooms.

To complete the experience and establish the Oktoberfest vibe, each night musicians and entertainers perform in participating restaurants and breweries as an attraction to these venues.

Last year’s event was such a success that a survey promoted by the chambers of festival-goers revealed that 89% of those that came to Muskoka for Oktoberfest would return for another edition. You don’t want to miss it!
